It was colder than I expected. Not harsh, just still. Like touching something that no longer wants to be touched. I leaned in anyway. Gave it a name. A breath. A little heat. Sometimes that’s all you can do. You press your mouth to what will not answer, and you leave a trace. There was love once. And then it was gone. What remained was the cold, and somehow I learned to hold it.
