This work is composed of countless paper straws upon acrylic paint. Behind them, golden fish shimmer quietly, swimming through memory. As a child, I had goldfish. I wasn’t always as careful with them as I should have been. I think no animal belongs in a bowl, a cage or behind glass, especially not when it’s just for our pleasure. The work reminds me of coral. Intricate, organic, almost breathing. It invites you to look beyond the surface, to sense the quiet life beneath the layers.
